A-STAR ("we", "us", "the app") is an on-demand marketplace that connects
customers with local handymen and service professionals. This policy explains
what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Account & profile: phone number, name, and (for professionals) profession, bio, hourly rate, and profile photo.
- Verification (professionals only): government ID, selfie, skill certificate, and National Identification Number (NIN), submitted for manual vetting.
- Location: approximate or precise location to show nearby professionals and enable live job tracking, used only while the app is in use.
- Communications: in-app chat messages, voice notes, and voice-call connection data between customers and professionals.
- Ratings & reviews: ratings and comments you submit, which are shown publicly on a professional's profile.
- Device & usage data: app interactions, device identifiers, and diagnostic data to operate and improve the service.
How we use your information
- Create and manage your account and verify professionals.
- Match customers with nearby professionals and enable bookings, chat, and calls.
- Send notifications about job requests, messages, and calls.
- Maintain trust and safety, prevent fraud, and respond to reports of abuse.
- Operate, analyse, and improve the app.
Third-party services
We use trusted third-party providers that process data on our behalf:
- Google Firebase — authentication, database, storage, and push notifications.
- Agora — real-time in-app voice calls (audio is transmitted to connect calls and is not stored by us).
- Sendchamp — sending one-time SMS verification codes.
- Google AdMob — advertising (where enabled), which may use advertising identifiers.
Each provider processes data under its own privacy policy.
Tracking & advertising
Where advertising is enabled, we may ask your permission (via Apple's App
Tracking Transparency) to use your advertising identifier to show more
relevant ads. You can decline, and you can change this anytime in your device
settings. We do not sell your personal data.
User-generated content & safety
Reviews, profiles, and messages are created by users. We do not tolerate
objectionable content or abusive behaviour. You can report content or block a
user from within the app, and we will review reports and remove content or
remove users that violate our terms.
Data sharing
We share the minimum information needed for the service to work — for
example, a professional's public profile and approximate location are shown to
customers. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed
to provide the service and meet legal obligations. You may request deletion of
your account and data at any time (see Contact).
Your rights
- Access, correct, or delete your personal data.
- Withdraw consent for optional processing (e.g. ad tracking).
- Request that your account and associated data be removed.
Children
A-STAR is intended for adults (18+) and is not directed to children. We do
not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be
reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
